E-RAD BLU-S: Bluetooth-Enabled Torque Wrench

Different RAD Gun Attachments to Use

Torque wrenches play a vital role in critical bolting applications across energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors. This means operators have to exercise precision torque control to ensure proper tightening while avoiding dangerous over or under-torquing.

But in an increasingly connected world, facilities demand greater connectivity and automation to enhance operators’ and tools’ efficiency and capabilities. Fortunately, the E-RAD BLU-S answers the call as an advanced Bluetooth-compatible torque wrench.

Understanding Bluetooth-Enabled Torque Wrenches

Bluetooth torque wrenches contain electronic circuitry that communicates wirelessly with external devices like smartphones or computers. This allows real-time torque data transmission for remote collection and analysis.

Industrial models like the E-RAD BLU-S allow pairing with smart sockets or sensors. These specialized sockets attach to bolts and contain sensors that transmit extremely accurate torque measurements via Bluetooth back to the paired wrench.

Bluetooth connectivity eliminates manual recording, while allowing advanced features like automatic data archiving and pass/fail torque alerts. This way, users gain precise torque insight without slowing down operations.

Advantages of Bluetooth Technology in Torque Wrenches

Bluetooth technology is transforming how torque wrenches are used, bringing significant advancements in precision, efficiency, and data management.

  • Real-time remote data monitoring – Operators can wirelessly view torque measurements on connected devices.
  • Automatic documentation – Torque logs self-record without user intervention.
  • Pass and fail alerts – Audible or visual cues notify operators if they exceed torque limits.
  • Expanded analysis – Torque data gets transferred to software for detailed inspection.
  • Reduced human error – No manual data entry means fewer transcription mistakes.

Bluetooth also enables managers to supervise multiple torque operations from one location remotely. This allows them to confirm proper protocols without time-consuming site visits.

How Bluetooth Connectivity Enhances Precision and Efficiency

Traditional torque wrenches rely on manual observation to determine torque, which can be prone to errors. Bluetooth technology offers a significant improvement by introducing wireless communication between the wrench and smart sockets equipped with calibrated sensors.

Here’s how it works:

  • Precise measurements – The smart socket sensor measures the tension applied to the bolt as the technician tightens it.
  • Real-time data – This live data is then wirelessly transmitted to the Bluetooth-enabled torque wrench.
  • Accurate tightening – The technician can see the real-time torque readings on the wrench and adjust their application to reach the exact target torque efficiently.

By eliminating the need for manual estimation, the Bluetooth-compatible E-RAD BLU-S reduces the risk of over-tightening or under-tightening bolts, ensuring proper assembly and component integrity.

Automatic data transmission also eliminates manual recording, saving time and reducing fatigue for technicians. Additionally, data logs are automatically generated, streamlining documentation and simplifying audits. This combination of improved accuracy and streamlined workflows empowers technicians to achieve consistent and reliable results.

Pairing the Wrench with the Smart Socket

The E-RAD BLU-S wrench must be paired with a compatible smart socket containing the torque sensor to enable Bluetooth. Follow these simple steps:

  • Enable Bluetooth on the socket – In some cases, the socket might require its Bluetooth function to be activated before connecting to the wrench. Refer to the socket’s user manual for specific instructions on enabling Bluetooth if needed.
  • Locate the wrench’s display interface – This is typically a small touch screen or keypad on the controller box.
  • Activate the wrench’s Bluetooth – Tap the SS icon in the top left corner of the screen.
  • Enter the socket’s serial number and pairing code – This information is on the socket itself or its user manual. The default pairing code is usually 1111, but it may have been changed previously.

Once paired, you can check the status of the sensor by looking at the color of the SS icon:

  • Grey – Bluetooth is off or the wrench isn’t connected.
  • Red – Bluetooth is recognized but not connected to a smart socket.
  • Yellow – Connection is in progress.
  • Blue – Connection is complete and the wrench is ready to use.

Calibrating the Torque Wrench for Accurate Readings

While smart sockets contain internal torque calibration, the paired wrench must also be calibrated. This synchronizes the wrench with the socket to properly interpret incoming torque signals.

Calibration involves tightening test bolts with the paired socket and wrench assembly to confirm accurate torque readings. Calibration adjustments fine-tune the wrench when needed until measurements match the set bolt torque levels.

This ensures the Bluetooth-enabled wrench shows true torque values during use for precise fastening control. The E-RAD BLU-S features easy calibration adjustments via its digital interface.
